And my mother was a big influence. In my youth, she was a literature teacher in Secondary School in Singapore (Raffles Institution, Chinese High). now she's a lecturer in critical thinking at a local college.
She introduced me to Lady Mara (Servant of the Empire Series, and books like A Darkness at Sethanon, i.e anything by Raymond E Feist)
She was also a fan of Neil Gaiman and his Endless Series
